What is Gish?
AN INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION: Teams of 15 people (or less) complete as many items from a looong list of tasks as they possibly can, as creatively as they can during one week in July/August every year. The tasks involve arts, crafts, charity and fun group activities (as much as the pandemic allows).
In 2018, our team sent a traffic cone to space.
CHARITY: In 2020, GISH players provided over 1,000,000 meals for No Kid Hungry, raised almost $350,000 for racial justice, provided tens of thousands of insecticidal nets to fight malaria in Africa, funded over $60,000 in acts of kindness and more. And this is just one year! Gish has been running since 2012 and every year, thousands of Gish participants all over the world take part in multiple charity efforts & tasks.
ABOUT US: Our team is called Team Scrumtrulescent. We have 15 members: 2 in Finland, 1 in Israel and the rest of us all around the USA (incl. Hawaii!).
YOU’VE BEEN ASKED TO HELP OUT? Great! That means you have something *amazing* that our team needs to complete a task. We can’t pay money for your participation (that’s forbidden!), but we always try to give something back. Whether it’s a shoutout on multiple social media accounts or an IOU or just a bunch of happyfeels, it’s important that you feel good about it after contributing. Gish is about networking and making the world a better place, and we’ll very happily tell you more about it if you still feel hesitant about what you’ve been asked to help out with!

KANSAINVÄLINEN KILPAILU: 15 hengen (tai pienemmät) tiimit kilpailevat ottamalla kuvia ja videoita annettujen ohjeiden mukaan - lista on piiiitkä ja tehtäviä paljon. Kilpailuaika on noin viikon mittainen heinä-elokuun vaihteessa. Tehtävien joukosta löytyy taiteita, käsitöitä, hyväntekeväisyyttä ja yhteisöllisiä puuhia (pandemian rajoissa).
Vuonna 2018 joukkueemme lähetti liikennetötterön avaruuteen.
HYVÄNTEKEVÄISYYTTÄ. Esimerkiksi vuonna 2020 aikana Gish-kisaajat keräsivät mm. yli miljoona ateriaa No Kid Hungry -järjestön kautta, 350,000 dollaria tasa-arvotyöhön, kymmeniä tuhansia malaria-verkkoja Afrikkaan ja rahoittaneet 60,000 dollarin edestä muuta hyväntekeväisyyttä. Ja tämä vain yhtenä vuonna! Gishiä on kisattu jo vuodesta 2012 lähtien ja joka vuosi tuhannet kilpailijat ympäri maailman osallistuvat monenlaisiin hyväntekeväisyystoimiin.
KETÄ ME OLEMME? Team Scrumtrulescent on tiimimme nimi. Meitä on 15 ihmistä: kaksi Suomessa, yksi Israelissa ja loput USA:n eri osavaltioissa (mukaanlukien Havaiji!)
JOS OLEMME PYYTÄNEET SINULTA APUA… Mahtavaa! Se tarkoittaa sitä, että sinulla on jotain *upeaa*, jota tiimimme tarvitsee jonkin tehtävän suorittamiseen. Emme voi maksaa palveluksista (säännöissä kiellettyä), mutta yritämme aina antaa jotain takaisin: kiitoksia useammilla somekanavilla, sovelias vastapalvelus tai vain oikein hyvää mieltä, mutta tärkeintä on, että osallistuminen on sinullekin hauskaa. Gishissä on kyse nimenomaan verkostoitumisesta ja maailmanparantamisesta, ja mieluusti kerromme lisää koko hommasta, jos kiinnostaa!

GisHwhes item 71: Rumor has it that nuclear submarines have knotches on the deck to support a person in a swimsuit lounging in a hammock while drinking a cocktail out of a coconut. Prove it.
